& Smart Moves

Smart Moves was born in 2017, schools we were working with were reporting an 'anxiety epidemic' around transition. Our own experience of working with young people for over 20 years had taught us that early intervention and support was key.

This is reflected in the Department of Health paper; Future in mind: Promoting, protecting and improving our children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing, which states it is crucial to:

  • Promote mental wellbeing and resilience, by supporting children and young people and their families to adopt behaviours that support good mental health;

  • Prevent mental health problems, by taking early action with children, young people and parents who may be at greater risk;

  • Early identification of need, so that children and young people are supported as soon as problems arise to prevent more serious problems developing wherever possible

Smart Moves is

Evidence based

Using the work of The Resilience Framework by Professor Angie Hart and University of Brighton, and The Resilient Classroom Resource Pack Written by Sam Taylor, Angie Hart and Hove Park School.

Through working with students and staff we created easy to use, fun and interactive resources for year 6 and year 7.

Whilst some students can be identified early on as those who are likely to struggle in later years, no one can predict nor prevent every challenge that a student will face. Therefore all students will benefit from gaining skills and tools to build resilience. Whatever their current situation all students have a lot to contribute to their peers, therefore Smart Moves focuses on a whole class delivery.
